The Perfect Stranger: Encounters that leave a lasting impression

“I had pizza and coffee with a perfect stranger today. It reminded me of my journey and why I must answer the call.”- BCSTARKS

Sometimes we get lucky enough to cross paths with just the right people at just the right time in our lives. The kind of encounters where witnessing the other’s passion and purpose somehow ignites our own. I was so fortunate to have been inspired by the perfect stranger. After back and forth dialogue over pizza about the usual run of the mill (You know, the ‘where are you from-s?’ and the ‘what do you do-s?’), we exchanged stories about spirituality and our purpose-driven quests. And as we did, we saw ourselves in one another’s story.

What I was most captivated by was this stranger’s level of passion and dedication to their love for writing. Needless to say I was reminded of my own dance with writing. I was reminded that I have unfinished business to tend to; that I have a story that has yet to be told. I was reminded that just like this stranger, I must make time for the things that fuel my spirit, even if it means turning off to the world and giving myself permission to say no to the things that distract me from my calling.

Just hours before my encounter, I had listened to a speech given by motivational speaker Les Brown on living one’s purpose. In his speech, he spoke about investing time and discipline into one’s passion and gifts so that they may be of good use to the world. He mentioned how even when one feels like they are not truly where they want to be, one can always make the most of the experience by cultivating habits of success. This shift in awareness and perception would allow one to be ready for when opportunities arise where one can share those very gifts with others. By the time an opportunity arises, one will have mastered or refined the very thing that he or she aims to become.

This is where I can be found in my journey. And in a space that doesn’t fit the bill, I choose to spend my time cultivating the traits and skills that play into my life’s purpose. As a result, I can feel several opportunities on the horizon. And you better believe that I will indeed be ready for them.

Dear stranger, yet kindred spirit… your passion is infectious!

Grace: Manifesting It Through Gratitude

“Grace is flowing back to me.”

Hey there!

So, I’m participating in this free 21-day meditation challenge presented by Oprah and Deepak Chopra. This time around, the challenge’s focus is “Manifesting Grace through Gratitude.” Previous topics have been how “all good things bring gratitude,” and how to learn to recognize things to be grateful for so that you can open up to receiving more experiences to appreciate. Today is Day 4, and in the journal section where you are invited to share your thoughts, we were asked to reflect on the times (most recently) that we experienced signs of grace. I was able to recall those times most vividly, and decided to share them with my readers. I also want to encourage you, if its your “thing, to join the meditation challenge. Its free and worth all 20 minutes of the 24 hours in your day. Each time that I actually make time to meditate is when I find that I am most at peace and have a more of a clear perspective on my day. I also feel high… Yes, like I just smoked a pound of weed (which I do not smoke at all). Lol Who needs drugs when you can just meditate?! …Don’t knock it until you try it. ūüėČ

Journal: Day 4 – Grace Is Replying

Write down any signs of grace that have come to you recently, such as an unexpected kindness or moment of joy, a sense of perfection, or a feeling of belonging.

I felt grace when I dreamt about my late grandmother the other night. I am currently preparing to move across the country to start a new chapter in my life, and to be honest, I am terrified. In my dream, I was already in my new city, and I was at someone’s wedding. While maneuvering to find a seat, I caught a glance of a woman wearing a red dress and it was my grandmother. I was ecstatic and made a mental note that I would make my way to say hello. Just as I was weaving my way through the crowd of people standing in the isle, I peeped around their bodies to make sure that I was heading towards my grandma. Just as I was getting closer, I woke up. Damnit!  It saddened me that I could not get close enough to her to have a conversation or even say hello.  But I am thankful for grace giving me peace by allowing her to appear in my dream. It gave me comfort to know that even though she’s not physically present, she still supports me at times that I feel I need her most.

Cutting back on duties and demands to spend more time connecting with those you love is a wonderful way to invigorate your energy. Write down three ways you can renew your energy by appreciating what’s around you. For example, you could take a quiet walk amid the trees, view an art exhibit, or catch up with a dear friend.

Yesterday I felt grace when I walked outside to sit among the trees and nature. I found myself wanting to clear my mind, so I decided to meditate outdoors. Its amazing how, in an instant, I felt a sense of oneness with all that the outdoors had to offer. Aside from being distracted by a few pedestrians waling by, I was able to connect my energy with the emanating energies of the trees, and the earth, and the wind… I heard birds chirping, and felt the warmth of the sun kissing my skin. I would do it again, and often even, because it calms my mind and helps me to put things in perspective. I could always pick up the phone to call someone that I haven’t spoken to in a while. Those times always turn into two hour long conversations, and almost always end with “I love you” and “don’t be a stranger.”

Grace is laced throughout my everyday life and always leaves me feeling energetic and ready to handle the next big task of the day.I feel so appreciative that I can recognize these moments as they happen, and be able to say “Thank You” to God and the Universe for allowing me know the joys of life and appreciate them as they come.

Use this space to reflect further on your experience today.

It’s still early in the day for me, but I am open to however grace will present itself. I am open to beauty in all forms, and look forward to continuing to push past fear and allow abundance and love to pour into my life. I’m appreciative for this platform… I look forward to each day that I get to meditate with Deepak and Oprah in my ear.

Namaste…

Love,

How to Float Through Life’s Peaks and Valleys

It’s funny how life goes through its peaks and valleys. It’s funny how when we’re in the valley or that dark place, it feels like we’re dying a slow death. And when the peaks are peeking or we are experiencing happiness, we feel like we are unstoppable, unconquerable, and outright powerful! And in those moments, we ARE.

Lately, I’ve been on a cloud of unconcealed bliss. My feelings about my life and this journey that I’m on have brought me to this place of peace within. I’ve gotten to this place where I don’t feel the need to worry, even when things outside of me aren’t looking too promising. I no longer look outside of myself for validation of WHO I AM or WHAT my WORTH is. I no longer entertain those who fail to SEE me as I see myself, to respect my evolution and embrace the whole of me. This space that I am in has been carved out for me by God to take place at this point of my life because it was always God and the Universes intention to use my story as a means of reflecting HIS light.

I now trust that every valley that I ever found myself in was there to teach me how strong and resilient I really am. They were there to show me that regardless of the obstacle, LIFE. GOES. ON. And instead of folding, I learned to bend and flex, and sometimes morph into whatever the moment calls for. I was only able to do this when I truly relied on a SOURCE bigger than me.

Being raised in a Christian Baptist faith, I learned the importance of the Bible verse that says something like, “Lean not on your own understanding, but trust in the lord with all your heart. In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Well lets just say that I have acknowledge that I don’t walk alone in this world, even when I am alone. I feel very watched over, and protected, and safe, and secure, and befriended, and loved, and appreciated, and forgiven, and trusted, and… Well, I could go on and on, but you get the point. I feel all of these things even when I am alone because I now KNOW that God is in me, and acts through me even unbeknownst to me. And if I know what I know about God, then I KNOW that he is the creator of all things, and can do all things.

With this knowledge, I know that if HE is in me, then it is also true that I too am a creator, and a conqueror, and that with sheer WILL POWER, I can overcome any obstacle placed before me, and still find PEACE in my heart. I thank GOD for this level of understanding! And you should too! Because we all are being walked with throughout our journeys. We are NEVER truly alone. However, It is only when we consciously decide to “lean not” on our own visual understanding of what we see and experience in life, and instead, step outside of our stories and understand the bigger picture of what GOD is doing with our spirits, that we can experience this most profound sense of PEACE and POWER. It is then that you can let go of the blame, and anger, and frustration, and take control of your emotions, and ultimately your LIFE!

I believe that I AM a Teacher of some of life’s most humbling, yet graceful lessons because of the peaks and valleys that I’ve faced along this journey. But I am ever so thankful for them, and I wouldn’t take any one of them away if I had the chance, because they made me who I am today. And like fine wine, I just keep getting better with time! And if you pay attention, so do YOU! ūüėČ

Peace & Love,

Intuition: Man’s GREATEST Gift, Woman’s LOVING Guide

Intuition-banner

Have you ever encountered a situation or person, and despite what was going on or being said, you sensed that there was more to the story than what your eyes could see? That feeling that you can’t quite define in the moment, but as time goes on it becomes crystal clear that whatever you were sensing was dead on? Well of course you have… In fact, we all have. And its no coincidence that your initial senses are ALWAYS pointing you in the right direction. You are always being lead to the TRUTH of the matter of whatever it is that sent your senses in a tizzy. That my friend is GOD and Universe’s GREATEST gift to mankind. INTUITION.¬†

As history would teach us, including the great books of all religions (directly or indirectly), intuition is a major part of survival as human beings. It is what we use when we are unknowingly in the face of danger, or when we don’t have the words to express what is truly in our hearts. It guides us even when the thinking mind can’t make sense of its own thoughts. Its the feeling (often subtle) beneath the surface, that ultimately points us to truth without the need for reason.

By definition, INTUITION is the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.

That’s right, unlike what we’ve been collectively trained to believe about decision making, not every circumstance or situation requires reasoning. In fact, oftentimes you just have to trust that you really do KNOW what you KNOW. As Malcolm Gladwell, bestselling author of Blink:¬†The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, puts it:

Anyone who has ever scanned the bookshelves of a new girlfriend or boyfriend- or peeked inside his or her medicine cabinet- understands this implicitly; you can learn as much – or more – from one glance at a private space as you can from hours of exposure to a public face.‚ÄĚ

He further goes on to challenge logical reasoning in saying that:

‚ÄúOur world requires that decisions be sourced and footnoted, and if we say how we feel, we must also be prepared to elaborate on why we feel that way. I think that approach is a mistake, and if we are to learn to improve the quality of the decisions we make, we need to accept the mysterious nature of our snap judgements. We need to respect the fact that it is possible to know without knowing why we know and accept that ‚ÄĒ sometimes ‚ÄĒ we‚Äôre better off that way.‚ÄĚ

This whole notion of instinct and intuitive wisdom was once, and still is, regarded as the core essence of femininity. It is the superpower that women of all ages across time have consistently relied upon for survival in a world ruled by masculinity. It is what kept women safe and guarded, and why a men had to earn her vulnerability, because she always KNEW.

Feminist Guidance Coach Gayle Goldwin writes in WomanSpirit Oracles: Wisdom of the Ancients, Solutions For Today:

“There was a time, back in days now lost in the fog of prehistory, when Woman didn’t need oracles to predict her future or reveal what was going on behind her back. She didn’t worry about what might happen, and she didn’t fret about what to do. She didn’t need to. She hadn’t been taught to doubt her Self. She hadn’t been taught to dismiss her Intuition. She hadn’t been taught to disregard her own Knowing. Back then, women didn’t need oracles because every Woman was an Oracle.

And she knew it.

Back then, it was obvious that Woman had a direct connection to Divinity. She was, after all, created in the image and likeness of the Great Goddess. She need only be still and ask, for every answer to be given her. That’s just how it was. She was Feminine, and her Femininity made her Powerful. She had Woman’s feelings, instincts, intuition and senses. She intuitively Knew everything she needed to know.

And everyone knew that she Knew.

Women today still have a direct link to Divinity. They still have access to all Knowing, and they still need only ask to receive the answer. Woman’s inherent sensitivity and abilities remain as they have always been. Her intuitive link to all Knowing remains just as it was created within her. The only thing that has changed over the last six millennia is that Woman no longer knows that she Knows.

She was feminine, and her femininity made her POWERFUL!” –¬†Gayle Goldwin

As a woman it is quite refreshing to be reminded of this. But what I am most refreshed about in coming across the works of Goldwin, is her reminder of why self-love for every woman is her one true nature:

Women then needed joy and fulfillment in their lives, just as women now do. But women then were taught that they would find it within themselves‚ÄĒin the activities, pursuits and pleasures that they enjoyed…¬†Back then, women understood their power over men. How- ever much a woman might enjoy having sex, she will never need it as Man does because Spirit‚Äôs life-sustaining flow is always cours- ing through her body. Women then understood the magnitude of the gift‚ÄĒthe vital Life Force Energy that maintains a body‚Äôs health‚ÄĒthat they bestowed on men through their sexual favor. They recognized their power and used it to command due respect and appreciation.

This mini lesson of intuition is one that I intend to continue to explore. Especially given that it’s universal and is what keeps us all connected to SOURCE. Please check out the works of both experts mentioned in this post. And if you are a woman like myself, or you desire to better understand the nature of women, download a free chapter from Goldwin’s website. It is DEFINITELY worth the read.

I AM so full of gratitude for being brought to this place in my journey of GREATNESS! It is always my hope that you too feel the love of GOD and the Universe as a result of coming right here, right now.

Namaste,

@BCSTARKS

Tending to Spirit: The POWER of Focusing Within

love-hearts-live-hd-wallpapers-2-6-s-307x512¬†I feel so blessed to have this platform to share my passion of council/and coaching. I’m grateful to the many people whom I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with throughout my journey, and the many lessons that I continue to learn from our interactions. Its funny because so often many of us take these interactions for granted, failing to see the beauty that pours from them because we are too busy focusing on everything surrounding them, rather than what is going on inside ourselves as a result of them. What i know for sure is that if we are open to allowing ourselves to become more, and to constantly improve our life experiences, we can contribute so much more to those around us.

When we take our attention away from the noise and distractions of the outside world (and the people in it), we give ourselves room to reflect on our own inner processes, such as what ¬†makes us happy, what causes us pain, what makes us feel appreciative or appreciated. It has been written and uttered by the GREATS throughout the history of mankind, that man’s greatest task in life is to¬†KNOW THYSELF. It is only through inner reflection, and the willingness to heal pains of the past and evolve, that one can change his own reality, and ultimately make a difference in the lives of others.

When we find ourselves in situations where we somehow feel that we were mistreated or wronged in some way, the greatest gift that we can give ourselves is the opportunity to make any experience less about another person, and more about what you can NOW do with a newfound awareness of self. This means that one should focus as often as possible on how their own thoughts, feelings, and actions may have somehow contributed to such an interaction. This is not to say that one should find fault within himself for something that occurred. However, it is to say that no one has the power to affect you in any way that you don’t allow them to. And as we now know, and have come to accept from the GREAT Sir Isaac Newton’s Laws of Motion,

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

This notion of knowing thyself has less to do with religious beliefs and theories, and everything to do with understanding that we are all physically interacting with one another as we live life on EARTH, and as result, we are constantly exchanging messages through our actions and words. ¬†Life’s interactions are all about the balance of give and take. When we learn to take the focus from any and everything outside of ourselves and learn to go within to uncover the true meaning behind our choices (whether it be past hurts and joys, or pride and shame), we empower ourselves with the tools to walk the face of the EARTH with confidence and reassurance that we are indeed “Masters of our fate, captains of our souls.”

Another great thing about inner focus is that when we give ourselves room to have stillness and peace, we allow ourselves to recharge and approach any situation with a clear mind and more positive energy. Oftentimes we are so used to “reacting” to everything around us, typically out of emotion. But we all know that most decisions we make based on emotions are usually not the greatest. That’s because emotions are like the waves of the ocean, they are fickle and constantly change from one moment to the next. However, when we take all focus from the outer world and redirect it within, we allow ourselves to attract better outcomes from a less emotionally charged perspective, to a more serene and peaceful state of being. And we all have experience with this kind of phenomena. We all know how it feels to walk away from a person or thing until we feel better about the subject, only to realized that it turns out so much better when you do your own inner work. ¬†Now that’s what true POWER really is!¬†

Most recently, I stumbled across this audio track of one of my favorite Universal Law of Attraction teachers Abraham and Esther Hicks on the subject of focusing within. Please check it out and drop me a line (comment). I’d love to hear from you!

[Disclaimer: Language such as “Vortex,””Source Energy,” and Vibration are used instead of Spirit, GOD, and energy because the teachings have less to do with religion and EVERYTHING to do with understanding the human psyche and experience. Please look past the literal language and allow yourself to be open to new lessons.]

Words of Wisdom: Reflections on Sexual Healing and Marvin Gaye

“When sex is of the Holy Spirit, it is a deepening of communication. When it is of the ego, it is ¬†a substitute for communication. The Holy Spirit uses sex to heal us; the ego uses it to wound us. Sometimes we have thought that sex with another person would cement the bond between us, and instead it turned out to manufacture more illusion and anxiety than there was before. It is only when sex is a vehicle of spiritual communion that it is truly loving, that it joins us to another person. Then it is a sacred act. Holiness means the presence of a loving purpose, and in that sense, the body and its accouterments can be a holy expression. Many spiritual seekers have felt the need to eschew all body related things. But that can be as ego-centered as a overattachment to the physical. Anything used to spread joy and communicate love is a part of GOD’s plan for salvation.” — Marianne Williamson,¬†A Return To Love p. 250-251

This quote gave me a whole new perspective on Marvin Gaye’s Grammy Award winning album Sexual Healing. In case you’ve never heard the song, or if you just love it like I do, check it out below along with the lyrics. Also, check out Sexual Healing: What It Means, Why It Matters for an amazing lesson on the¬†topic.
Sexual Healing Lyrics:
Ooh, now let’s get down tonight
Baby I’m hot just like an oven
I need some lovin’
And baby, I can’t hold it much longer
It’s getting stronger and stronger
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing, oh baby
Makes me feel so fine
Helps to relieve my mind
Sexual Healing baby, is good for me
Sexual Healing is something that’s good for me
Whenever blue tear drops are falling
And my emotional stability is leaving me
There is something I can do
I can get on the telephone and call you up baby, and
Honey I know you’ll be there to relieve me
The love you give to me will free me
If you don’t know the things you’re dealing
I can tell you, darling, that its Sexual Healing
Get up, Get up, Get up, Get up, let’s make love tonight
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, ‘cos you do it right
Baby I got sick this morning
A sea was storming inside of me
Baby I think I’m capsizing
The waves are rising and rising
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing is good for me
Makes me feel so fine, it’s such a rush
Helps to relieve the mind, and it’s good for us
Sexual Healing, baby, is good for me
Sexual Healing is something that’s good for me
And it’s good for me and it’s good to me
My baby ohhh
Come take control, just grab a hold
Of my body and mind soon we’ll be making it
Honey, oh we’re feeling fine
You’re my medicine open up and let me in
Darling, you’re so great
I can’t wait for you to operate
I can’t wait for you to operate
When I get this feeling, I need Sexual Healing [Ad lib]

Brittnay’s Corner: Sexual Healing: What It Means, Why It Matters

Yes, I’m taking it there! But bear with me because this isn’t your typical religious based ¬†speech on why you should save yourself for marriage, or be guilted¬† by your past. I’ll leave that part to the folks who handle that best. That’s out of my league. “Nope, not I,” ¬†said the cat.

I do, however, ¬†intend to share with you a lesson that almost knocked my socks off when I read it. And it’s not that I haven’t heard similar teachings, but I’ve never heard it stated in a way that actually sits well with my spirit. A way that doesn’t leave me feeling any awkwardness whatsoever… you know, guilty, anxious or ashamed. Instead, I was filled with feelings of pure love and acceptance, which is what any true word of GOD and the DIVINE should feel ¬†like (Your spirit always KNOWS the source from which it comes…its all in how you feel).

Now to the lesson…

A Course In Miracles (ACIM) teaches us that we are not truly the physical body form that we identify ourselves by. Instead, we should view ourselves as spiritual beings having a physical/ human experience here on Earth. With that said, we must be able to view ourselves beyond our physical bodies and the physical material world that we live in.

That’s all pretty cool… obvious for some. But let’s take it a step further.

ACIM also tells us the following:

“When you equate yourself with a body[or another person in the same way], you will always experience depression [or anxiety].”

This is true when we are critical with ourselves or others about our weight, or physical attractiveness, material wealth/success, etc… It’s never a good feeling when we only fully identify ourselves as our physical bodies or material wealth because these are things that can and will constantly change, just as everything else in the physical realm. And let’s face it, we’re all worth wayyy more than what’s on the surface. In fact, we can all agree the only true constants are Spirit, LOVE and GOD… which are all ONE.

Stay with me here…

According to one of my favorite authors, Marianne Williamson in her bestselling title¬†A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course In Miracles, “One of the ways the body can be used to manufacture depression is through loveless sex.” This is because we tend to project either love or fear when we partake in sexual activities. Williamson states:

“When sex is of the Holy Spirit, it is a deepening of communication. When it is of the ego, it is ¬†a substitute for communication. The Holy Spirit uses sex to heal us; the ego uses it to wound us. Sometimes we have thought that sex with another person would cement the bond between us, and instead it turned out to manufacture more illusion and anxiety than there was before. It is only when sex is a vehicle of spiritual communion that it is truly loving, that it joins us to another person. Then it is a sacred act.–¬†Marianne Williamson, A Return To Love p. 250

In other words, when we partake in loveless sex, we are merely trying to fill a void for something else that we may feel is missing. In this context, sex is used as a coping mechanism that is no different from drugs, or food, or whatever else we humans have been known to use in order to cover up or communicate the true pain that may have never been healed from our past. For example, when a male/female has sex outside of an a loving relationship that has been established prior to sexual interaction, deep down he/she may subconsciously be attempting to communicate or fill a void of their true desire to be loved, wanted, or accepted as whole by another. Sex would thus be a substitution for true communication between that person, and his/her partner(s). There is always a story behind everything in life, whether deep or shallow. This is why communication on the surface goes a looooong way!

Ohhhh, but it gets better!!

Williamson goes on to share another part of this lesson that ACIM teaches, and that is one of the true definitions of what it means to be Holy as it relates to life, and in this context, sex:

“Holiness means the presence of a loving purpose, and in that sense, the body and its accouterments can be a holy expression. Many spiritual seekers have felt the need to eschew all body related things. But that can be as ego-centered as an overattachment to the physical. Anything used to spread joy and communicate love is a part of GOD’s plan for salvation.”¬†— Marianne Williamson,¬†A Return To Love p. 250

Now tell me that doesn’t give you a whole new perspective on Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing!

No matter how man tries to bog it down with condemnation and ridicule, sex was created by the DIVINE as a form of communication on the deepest level… Yes, for us humans it gets no better than pure physical intimacy. But it’s only when its used for the pure purpose of LOVE, that it feels HEAVENLY through and through; not just for the moment. Hence why most religions point in the direction of marriage before sex, and the whole spiel¬†on how man unites as one during meaningful intercourse. The truth is, all sex is meaningful. We just have to know ourselves well enough to know just what we are truly attempting to communicate to the Universe and our partner(s) in spirit. ¬†For we will only experience the truth of our intentions.¬†Therefore, perhaps we should heavily consider having only loving connections… at least at some point in our lives.

If love is what we truly desire, then love is what we ought to communicate with those we interact with in life in as many ways possible. First, we must love and accept ourselves as whole and complete beings right where we are. For in GOD’s eyes, man was perfectly and masterfully created. Once there, if others can accept the whole of you and love you as you are in return, then perhaps they are worthy of your sexual healing, and vice versa of course. DOPE, right!?!

Don’t ever say that I never tried to enlightened you! lol

Meanwhile, feel free to drop some of your thoughts on the topic in the comment section below.

Are You Living Your Purpose?

There is nothing like being in tuned with what your spirit has called you to be. And I’m not referring to titles that we’re always so quick to throw out there. Your purpose has absolutely nothing to do with a job title. In fact, jobs are merely channels that we use to be able to express our purpose. The key is to connect with the channel that will allow you to be more of what you are, thus giving you the room to allow your light to shine as bright as GOD intended.

This all sounds good right? But some may be thinking, “Well, what if I don’t know what that is?”¬†As Oprah once suggested, if you don’t know what your purpose is in life, your mission is to figure it out IMMEDIATELY so that you can get about the business of living it.

Every single person is here for a reason beyond what the human mind can conceive. Just as life happens in divine order, each one of our lives MATTER all because WE ARE HERE! Of the many combinations of mating that takes place among human beings, and the fact that you and I made the cut in this lifetime; the fact that we co-exist RIGHT NOW is nothing short of a miracle. The fact that we have breath in our lungs, and the families that we have, and the experiences that we encounter, and the ¬†many chances that we have to make another choice that will determine the direction that our lives will go is NOTHING SHORT OF A MIRACLE bestowed upon us by the DIVINE. Do you see where I’m going with this?…

When it comes to tapping into your life’s purpose,¬†Daniel Pink suggests that instead of asking questions like “What am I passionate about?,” which seems to be a question that often gets people stuck, better questions to discover your purpose would be “What do you do when no one’s watching? What do you read in your spare time? Where do you seem to inevitably steer your conversations, no matter what the topic is?

For me, these past few months have allowed me to step into my purpose in ways that I never saw coming. The experiences ¬†that I’ve encountered have shown themselves to be channels for me to do what I do best… the thing that I do effortlessly, even when no one else is looking. I do this thing everywhere I go because I take myself with me everywhere I go. And when I do this thing, it makes me feel ALIVE; like I am contributing something greater than myself to those I come in contact with. I know for sure that it is my ultimate purpose because no matter what job title I have, I AM IT!! This is my purpose, and now that I am aware of WHAT I AM ¬†and not just WHO I AM, I vow to use channels that will allow me to be MORE of WHAT I AM; those that will allow my light to shine as bright as GOD and the Universe intended. This blog is one of my channels, and it gives me great pleasure to share my purpose with those that I am so blessed to have read my words, and those that I come in contact with.

My purpose is to INSPIRE through the various skills that I have acquired through various life experiences. When I write, when I engage in conversation, when I embark on projects that allow me to share my purpose with others through service my heart smiles, my light shines, and the DIVINE approves and blesses me in my efforts. And the same happens for all those who do the same.

Make finding your purpose your main life mission. For when you do, life unfolds most gracefully and it makes it all worth while.

Love,

BCSTARKS

It matters not how old you are, but how ALIVE your spirit is

Three days ago, while shopping for Hurricane Irene, my mother and I crossed paths with a pleasant, and most vibrant 90-year-old woman. Her spirit was so warm and welcoming that we stood and spoke for all of 20 minutes in the middle of the bread isle. She showed us pictures of her children and grandchildren, and we stood there and listened… yes, all while shopping at BJ’s. ¬†I became so enthralled with her stories of how she and her husband ¬†had hosted parties for the likes of Frank Sinatra and other well-known people in society back her day. Her stories and photos revealed that she was a woman of great wealth, not just financially, but in spirit.

In mid conversation, I was moved to ask her the question that inspired this post, “What has been the philosophy that has guided your life to this very moment?” She chuckled a bit, and then proceeded to say,”I’ve always loved to laugh, and make the people around me have a good time.” ¬†This statement made perfect sense in terms of the warm connection that I felt as we stood there chatting amongst loaves of bread.

She then mentioned that she had never had any major illness throughout her life, and that she chose not to partake in the likes of smoking, drinking, or any drugs because she chose to treat her body well.

This 90-year-old woman, who introduced herself as Virginia P., had more life in her than some 20-somethings that I know. ¬†In fact, after seeing the story of a frail 90-year-old Nancy Reagan taking a fall on the same day that I met Virgina, I realized that it really does matter HOW WELL YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE YOUR LIFE. Virginia may have been 90, but she was far from frail. She walked and spoke with such poise and confidence that I would have never guessed her to be as old as she said she was. She had no help of a cane or walker, nor did she need it. Virginia had “mad SWAG,” as the hip-hoppers would say… And I was “diggin’ it.”

Before we parted ways, I made sure to tell her how beautiful she was inside and out, and how much I look forward to aging as graciously as she has. When I was done, she thanked me and looked me keenly in the eye and said,”You make sure you treat your mother well, because you only get one… and you both are very beautiful… take care honey.”

That encounter has inspired me in more ways than one. But for this post, the lesson has been that how well you live has less to do with age, and more about how “ALIVE,” joyous, and peaceful the spirit within you is. Especially when your aim is to always let it shine through.
