Discovering who you are

Who are you?

Beyond the titles, names, and labels we each hold, lies the mysterious and ever-changing being within. It’s so easy for us to get caught up in the hype about who we are, but the truth is that most people don’t have the slightest clue.  When you understand that nothing on the outside of you even comes close to defining who you are, then you’re getting there. The material wealth and accomplishments are only a reflection of what you have the ability to do. But to know what drives you, your gifts and talents, your LOVE (for self and others), and the power within is to truly know one’s self.

One of the easiest ways to get in tune with who you are is to learn WHO YOU ARE NOT. When you’re faced with situations and have to make instant decisions, pay attention to how you feel. When you feel peace, love, joy, happiness in these moments, you are indeed operating out of the YOU that is truly YOU… the one that GOD intended for you to be. Anything less may just be the thoughts and ideas about yourself and life that you have been programmed into adopting. However, unlike our emotions, the TRUTH is something that never changes. And you know the truth by the way it feels.

Learn to get beyond the surface and discover all that your spirit has to offer. And when you do, share it with the world! This blog is just one of my many gifts to the world and I hope that it helps you to see me for who I really am.

What inspired you today?

This morning I was inspired by a 16-year-old student that I used to tutor in math. He is extremely passionate about baseball and has dreams of eventually becoming a professional baseball player.  He now plays baseball for his high school, but this past weekend he sprained his ankle while playing a pick-up game of basketball. He told me that after the nurse wrapped his ankle in ice, she turned to him and said, “I know you love baseball, but you better make sure that you have something to fall back on.”

What was most inspiring was his response… Well, it was a more indirect response, but it is what he ultimately believes.

He told me that what the nurse had said made him feel uneasy because it’s not what he truly believes. He feels that he can do and be whatever he desires, regardless of what things seem to be at the moment. He made reference to a recent commencement speech that was given by Denzel Washington at Penn State University. In the speech, Denzel spoke about how one should never be afraid to fail. He said, “If you don’t fail, then you are not trying.”

The whole “you need to have something to fall back on” message is one that many of us will hear throughout our lives, and its usually said by those who mean well. But the truth is, instead of worrying about what you will fall back on, in the words of Denzel, you should be more focused on “what you can fall forward to.” Your faith should be enough to fall back on, while your passion and gifts from GOD is what you will continue to lean towards.

This message was most powerful to me today… and it came from the mouth of a babe.

Follow your dreams and let your inner spirit be your guide!

What inspired you today?

I woke up this morning feeling like a billion bucks. Not because something out of the ordinary took place, but because it just felt good to do so. Whenever I feel like this, I am inspired to write in my journal. Yes, I keep a journal, but it consists of mostly good feelings. I’d much rather document things to be happy about because when I read it later on, it just puts me it a good feeling place again. I like to write about the things that I am grateful for, the things that I hope to carry out, the things that I become more aware of, etc… Writing about these things just reminds me that the journey is what life is all about; what we are becoming more of each day. While writing, I usually have a divine moment of peace and clarity about my life’s possibilities, and it deeply humbles me. From there, I feel inspired and more equipped than ever before to tackle whatever comes my way. Mostly because I know that with all that I have become, and with all that I am, I CANNOT LOSE.
